The Local Government Commission has been tasked with producing a standardised Code of Conduct for all New Zealand Councils.
Until now, each Council has been responsible for adopting their own Code of Conduct. Most Councils simply adopted the standard Code of Conduct Template published by Local Government New Zealand.
A few Councils, such as Rotorua District Council, have tried their hand at drafting their own – with unexpected outcomes. In the 2019-2022 term Cr Reynold Macpherson claimed the New Zealand record for the Councillor with the most Code of Conduct complaints (16) against him in a single term.
